And they lived happily ever after…

Posted by sunshinedeb on May 18, 2008

And they lived happily ever after…

Awww…so sweet…this is “THE” line in a fairytale love story. But the question is, is there a fairytale love story?

Every girl will have their own “storyline” in their minds. They would start imaging their knight in shining armor rescuing them, from their childhood days. But will these dreams ever come true?

So…what’s my fairytale knight like? Oooo…I’ve got a long list! Hehe…And my friends always say that it gets longer each year! Haha…

There’s 2 categories in my list. Hehe…

Compulsary characteristics:

1. Love God, fear God. I believe when he walks right with God, all else is added into his (and my!) life.

2. A great giver. I believe in the principle of sowing and reaping. The more he gives, the more I love him! *siao right?*

3. Doing what is right at the right place and right time. I call this wisdom.

4.  A leader. I need someone who can lead me in every area of my life. He must be a leader who can preach and teach and build strong disciples.

5. A visionary. A man with a great vision in life can earn the full support of his wife. If he has a vision that is great, I can even give up mine for his. I’ve seen this in a couple that I know pretty well. They are Kevin and Esther. Esther is top in her field but she gave it up to support her hubby’s vision because he had a great vision that is worth dying for.

6. Completely honest with me and don’t hide anything from me. That will create trust. Trust creates security.

7. Love me, fear me. Giggles…

8. Love his family, love my family.

9. Can communicate well with me. Communication is the key to a relationship.

10. Sensitive to my needs. Mutual sensitivity is the secret that makes a relationship successful.

Nice characteristics that will charm me:

1. Rich!!! Oh man..what great joy if I can be Tai Tai! Wake up only to care for my hubby and kids and then have time to go for facial, gym, spa, shopping!!!!!

2. Can play guitar and sing. Oh man…come on…serenade me away….

3. Tall and well built. Hehe..forget about pretty face. It’s kinda tough to find a guy with nice face. The height and body will pass him as goodlooking! Hehe…

4. Play sports! Aahh…squeals!!! Imagine watching him play in a tournament with all the sweat! Aaahhh….charming! haha…Especially basketball! Aahhhh!!!!

5. Indonesian. OK…there’s something about Indonesians that I like .I’m not sure it’s the language or their ability to sing. No idea. Somehow…I love Indos…hehe

Haha…OK…suddenly the list looks so short! Hehe…

So…is there an ideal guy out there? Is there a fairytale love with a mighty knight in shining armor? Will I really find a guy that fulfill all the criterias I have in mind? More importantly, am I the ideal girl for this ideal guy?

To find out more, stay tuned to this blog! Hehe…Or better still, make your way to City Harvest Church on the 24th-25th May to hear it from Pastor Kevin himself! :) He’ll be starting on a new series on relationship called, “Does fairytale love exists?” :) Trust me, when it comes to relatioship advice, he’s the man! Haha….

Running revelations

Posted by sunshinedeb on May 18, 2008

Haha…revelations don’t run but “Running revelations” are the revelations I get when I’m running! Haha…

I went for another jog just now! I’m loving it man! And usually it’s a good time to be thinking about issues in my mind because while my body is working so hard, my brain ought to be moving to eh? As what they always taught us, “Badan cergas, otak cerdas” Haha…it means “an active body gives an active mind”.

I was just wondering, why do we need exercise? Exercise is helpful in reducing the risks of the top killers in the world: Heart disease, diabetes mellitus, hypertension and depression in some sense (well…our body releases endorphines when we exercise. These are the hormones that give you the “pleasure” feeling).

I wonder if God designed our physical body that way. Isn’t it ironic that people in the past did not talk much about exercise and having diseases related to lack of activity? I guess one of the reasons is because people in the past used their physical strength a lot during work. Unlike now, urban folks sit without moving an inch for several hours (besides walking to the loo or getting a cuppa) at work! OK…unless you’re working in the hospital wards!

But so many people hate exercise! Haha…I was one of them! I was a lazy worm who wouldn’t run or go any faster than walking! Haha…I was literally a book worm! Hehe… So if a lazy worm can hit the gym 3 times a week on an average, you can too! :) Here are some tips:

1. Start light. Take it easy. Don’t stress yourself and your body too much on the first day. Slowly increase the duration and effort needed during your workout :)

2. Do lots of stretching! I spend half the time doing stretching and anaerobic exercise. Besides preventing body aches and cramps, rumours tell me that it helps in maintaining a beautiful figure *whistles*. Working out can buff up our muscles and it’s not very pretty for girls. Apparently, stretching helps. Besides, you become more flexible too :)

3. Make it fun! Blast your favourite music! Or workout with your friends. Or play a sport. :) Exercise can be fun too :)

4. Don’t forget to drink water. Getting dehydrated after all the sweating is not pleasant. Then you’ll say exercise makes you sick! Haha….

Oh well…for many people I know, they don’t seem to care much about exercise. Is it even important? Especially for young dudes like us…diseases are far far away….Hmm…think again. A few facts here to keep us on our toes (running away..hehe…):

1. Exercise is one of the ways to prevent the top killer diseases. The risk of getting heart disease, hypertension, stroke can be reduced with regular exercise. In fact, diabetes can be better controlled when patients exercise. We don’t really know why but somehow it helps a lot.

2. Obesity is a risk factor for many, many diseases! So sweat it all out! There are a few theories to this. For some diseases like heart attack, diabetes and stroke, there’s a direct link. Fat deposits in our blood vessels can accumulate and finally block the entire vessel. This is called arteriosclerosis. Another reasoning is that fats tend to keep toxins in them, making it a risk factor for some cancer. Others say that free radicals are released from fat cells.

3. Sceintist believe that fatty streaks start accumulating in our blood vessels as early as teenage years. In US, there are many teens who lost their lives due to motor-vehicle accidents. As post mortem is a routine there, they found out that in many of the teens, fatty streaks are already present! So, don’t blame it on the later years! Start taking care of your health as young as you are! It’s just like protecting our face from wrinkles and trying to keep the baby-smooth skin. No point waiting for the wrinkles to appear and then try to fix that. Prevention is always better than cure!

4. Exercise improves our blood circulation and increases oxygen intake. So, more oxygen to the brain makes us smarter! Want better brains? Move it and stop sitting around being a lazy bookworm! Haha…

5. You have better stamina to do all you need for the day! Everytime I’m stressed and have tonnes of work to do, I know I need exercise. Everytime I feel tired all the time, I know my solution is to exercise. Hehe…try it! It works! :)

OK…enough about exercise I think. hehe.. just be on the move and keep yourself healthy! Hehe… I really love what I heard today: The best gift you can give your spouse and your loved ones is good health. How true…Just go to the wards in the hospital and see how dreadful it is to care for a sick relative or friend. It’s painful, heartbreaking and draining sometimes. Think of your loved ones and start taking care of your health :)

The Journey

Posted by sunshinedeb on May 18, 2008

I was running on the treadmill in the gym on Friday and something impressed upon my heart.

As always, when I run on the treadmill, my eyes can’t help but to keep checking the figures that are before me: distance covered, calories burnt. time I’ve ran and speed I’m running. And for some psychological reasons, the more I look, the tougher it seems. The more I feel it’s taking forever to hit my target and I keep hoping that I’ll reach my target soon! It’s torturous and it makes me gasp for air even more!

Suddenly I felt, in life, sometimes we’re like that. We have a target in our hearts that we want to achieve and we keep our eyes so fixed on it, we just can’t wait to hit it! We don’t care what happens but we just want to reach the target ASAP! Then we get very uptight, desperate to reach our goals and we miss out on other important things in life.

I just felt a prompting telling me to enjoy the journey. Enjoy the run! Enjoy the sweat, the muscle aches, the gasping for more oxygen, the music I’m blasting, the entire run! And before I know it, I crossed my target without realising and it was such a pleasant run! :)

There’s more in life than just hitting our targets! There’s people around us, people we love and people who love us. There’s another 6 billion people out there on this Earth and the earth does not spin on the “I” axis! There are another few billion species of things that God created out there for us to enjoy :) Sometimes our minds can be so narrow, we think there’s only “Me” in this world!

Enjoy the ride :) Enjoy the journey :) While we focus on what we want, let’s not forget other things and more importantly, other people :)

Smell the sweat and enjoy the muscle ache! :) Not only the destination matters, the journey matters as much :)

Expectations

Posted by sunshinedeb on May 18, 2008

This thing called expectations has been making me frustrated.

Sigh..sometimes I wonder who’s right, who’s wrong. Which expectation is correct?

I guess there’s no right or wrong answer….it’s just so widely varied between individuals. Probably it’s the differences that make us unique but it’s also the differences that allow conflicts.

So how? I guess it’s a very personal decision. Will you lower your own expectations to fit another person? Or will you pull the other person to your expectations? But will that cause conflict?

Will there be a balance where both parties can strike a balance? How much are you willing to tolerate and change?

Amazingly tricky eh? Makes me wonder if there’s ever a solution!

Another possible solution? Walk away! Haha…. Find birds of the same feathers and flock with them :) hehe…but then again, the easy way may not always be the right way.

Sigh….dilemma!!!

But then again..the decision is always yours. Haha… To stay or walk away…

More than words

Posted by sunshinedeb on May 18, 2008

I was taught, let your “yes” be “yes” and let your “no” be “no”. Because of this, people ought to be punctual, and keep their promises. Here are some unfulfilled promises in my life:

1. Body shop voucher

2. Thai massage (I cancel it voluntarily…oh well..unless I get some body ache some day. Hehe…)

3. 1 pair of shoes

4. Mascara (can have foundation also? :P )

5. New clothes (wah…so general!!!!)

6. Lullaby every night (senang2 song…giggles…)

7. Prayer and devotion every night

8. Shoping spree to buy whatever I want (waliao wei…haha…I hope there’ll be no regrets for this!) Haha….

9. Ole-ole Bali once a month! (waliao wei…will get broke and fat! haha…)

10. Phone! Hehe…

11. Good morning greeting everyday

12. Listen to ALL my advice when it comes to health-related issues

Haha…that’s a lot eh? I guess it’s really easy when we just “say” it and don’t think how much our words weigh. I think this speaks for myself as well. But I’ve a lesson today to be so careful with my words. Don’t make promises you can’t keep and don’t say things you don’t mean only to think that the hurt can be cancelled by saying sorry. Sometimes I think the phrase “Sorry no cure” is true.

But then again…I’ve also learnt about sincerity. If someone promised something but didn’t mean it. I would rather the promise is not fulfilled than for that person to just give me what was promised just to complete the duty.

Words are really more than just words….. :)
