My patient just passed away of a sickness that I’m very afraid of because I have high risk of death if I get it. I feel devastated.

 While it’s sad to observe how the doctors try to resuscitate him (I think they did a superb job!) and break the bad news to the relatives and watch them cry, I realise another thing about being a doctor today.

It’s not my first time watching a patient pass away but neither am i “immune” to it. It’s not uncommon to see patients pass away in the ward. This time is kinda traumatic because of this particular disease. It’s so easy to take death lightly in a conversation but wait till it’s your loved one, wait till you’re responsible. Then death is probably not that funny or light afterall.

Then I realise today, the frustrations that a doctor face can only be understood by someone who has similar experience. No matter how much my family and friends love me, it’s kinda hard to feel what I’m feeling right now. It’s difficult to comprehend the struggle, the frustrations of handling ward work, clinical hours, patients dying. I don’t blame them either.

But now I understand why I’ve always been advice to marry a doctor. Now I understand why so many doctors end up marrying healthcare workers. Not because we clique, not because of status. But I think someone can turn crazy trying to understand what a doctor goes through and feel, if he or she is not in the heathcare team. And I guess it’s not fair to expect them to. No big deal to that I guess. Just marry a doctor and make more doctor friends

I’ve always felt medicine has taken a big part of my life. I guess it’s even more obvious now. But I’ve never regretted. I love what I’m doing, I love being in the wards, I love listening to my patients and helping them, I love learning from the doctors and professors. I’ve learnt so much about life from them.

I’m still struggling with handling death. But I thank God I always have the comfort of knowing what happens to us after we die. I thank God I know where I am going.

Superhero

Giggles…this is hilarious!

But sometimes we’re like that in our own lives. Sometimes we do something we think is superb but *bam* we realise we’re stuck! Some call it adventurous, some call it dare to be different, some call it variety in life.

Nothing wrong with that I guess. But sometimes we go beyond what we can, trying to be “captain Napalm” then realise that we’re nothing near that and end up being locked in the closet! Haha….

Sometimes we think we can live our lives without a mentor or without God. we try to be our own superhero only to realise we can’t save ourselves.

 Today is Good Friday. A day Christians remember the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. This is the day Jesus died 2000 years ago to set us free. In cell group, we were asked to reflect on what Good Friday means to us. Is it just another “celebration”? Is it just another event in history? Or is it more than that?

Personally, I’m forever grateful for this day. Yup…I’ve climbed my ladders and I’m still climbing up. But I realise many times I would have fallen if not for the “Bigger Hand” that caught me. If not for the grace of God, I would have fallen many times.

So how does a Man who dies on  Friday save us? Because He resurrected 3 days later on Easter. Can’t wait for the drama production in church. It’s definitely gonna be a blast! Wanna join in the fun? Join us
